Working in collaboration with Back Historical Society on the Isle of Lewis Ian spent 15 years researching and recording the history of the village of Vatisker, the home of his grandfather.

The village of Vatisker is situated on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis, 7 miles from the town of Stornoway. Presented as a series of diaries, the book recounts the lives of those who were born or lived in the village prior to the date of the 1921 census.

Drawing on information from an extensive range of sources, Vatisker Diaries is the result of almost 15 years of meticulous research and analysis, Blending data from official documentation and other publications with the recollections and photographs of the village's descendants makes the book the most comprehensive history of the village and its people published to date.

The book is written in collaboration with the local historical society, Comann Eachdraidh Sgire a' Bhac.
