Hello there!
I'm Ian Quigley. Thank you for visiting my website. It's great to meet you!
I grew up in the village of Harthill in Lanarkshire, right in the heart of Scotland, and I'm delighted to say I've returned recently to call it home again. Harthill is perfectly situated between the vibrant cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, so I can hop on a bus or train and be in either place in just about half an hour.
My journey through education has been quite a colourful one, hopping from various qualifications and institutions. I started at Edinburgh University studying Geography, but life had other plans, and I found myself working with The Royal Bank of Scotland. I shifted my focus to banking, studying at Bell College in Hamilton and Caledonian University in Glasgow, where I gained my Membership of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. During my time at RBS, I also worked towards a BA (Hons) in Financial Services, enjoying various roles in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 2000, I made the leap to join Scottish Widows in Edinburgh and spent almost 25 years there. After studying for a Post Graduate Certificate in Computing for Commerce and Industry, I was mainly part of the IT team since then until recently.
Now, let me share something close to my heart. My passion for genealogy really ignited back in 2008 when I started digging into the family history of my maternal grandmother. The following year, I embarked on my maternal grandfather’s story, and it turned into an incredible journey that led to my very first book, 'Vatisker Diaries', which was published in late 2023! This book shares the fascinating history of the village of Vatisker on the Isle of Lewis and the lives of those who lived there on or before the 1921 Scotland Census. What a fulfilling project it has been! Through this adventure, I've gained a wealth of knowledge about family history research.
Since then, I’ve also uncovered my paternal roots, and I can genuinely say that exploring my family’s past has been such an enriching experience. Now, I’m thrilled to help you discover the same joy and fulfilment! I'm here to offer you a warm, tailored service that’s just right for you, and I’m eager to put in the effort needed to help you achieve your goals. Let’s set off on this exciting journey together!
